Emergency Amateur Radio
ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Services)
What Is ARES? In the United States, the Amateur Radio Emergency Service is a corps of trained amateur radio operator volunteers organized to assist in public service and emergency communications. It is organized and sponsored by the American Radio Relay League and the Radio Amateurs.
First, read the ARES manual, fill out the ARES Registration form and submit it to your local Emergency Coordinator. Follow tabs 1,2, and 3 to start your training.

ARES TRAINING LEVEL (1) These are the basics
Obtain Technician class or higher Amateur Radio License
Join an ARES group

Level 2 - Set of skills desired by ARES® obtained through coursework and training.

Obtain Technician class or higher Amateur Radio License

Program tone into HT.
Program frequency & offset into radio.
Write and send an ICS-213 message.
Build a simple dipole antenna** Encouraged
Build Powerpole® adapter cable** Encouraged
Solder PL259 connector to coax** Encouraged
Assemble a 24-hour Deployment Kit** Encouraged
